Basic information for international students

Before starting work, you agree with the company when can you expect the payment (e.g. 1st or 15th of the month). As a rule, companies submit a calculation of working hours once a month, but you can also make a different arrangement with your company.

Learn how much the minimum legal hourly rate is.

From your gross earning these taxes are deduced:

  • 15.5 % tax for the pension and disability insurance contribution -PIZ (payed by residents and non-residents od Republic Slovenia)
  • 22,5 % payment of income tax (payed by non-residents from countries that don't have an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation)

Example: If your gross earning schould be 100 €, these amount will be deduced:

  • 15,5 % PIZ; your earning: 84,50 €
  • 22,5 % payment of income tax; your earning: 65,88 €

In case that the Republic of Slovenia has signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation with your country, you can get the advance payment reimbursed. Make informative calculation of your earnings and you'll see if the country that you are coming from, has this agreement.

To get your advance payment reimbursed, you will need:

  • KIDO 12 form. We can send you fullfiled form by e-mail after you receive your payment for work, just let us know that you need it and we will send it to you.
  • Study certificate.
  • Proof of residence from the country of origin (you receive this in your country).

You have to sent/takethese three documents to the tax office of the Republic of Slovenia, which, after processing the application, refunds the advance payment of income tax (up to the amount of special personal relief applicable for that year).

The Financial Office of the Republic of Slovenia may also request other evidence of eligibility for the refund of the advance payment of income tax. If the Financial Office authorizes the refund, they will transfer your advance payment to your bank account.

For exact information on which countries allow the reimbursement of the advance, contact any tax office.

KIDO 12 is a form, that you send to Financial Office of the Republic of Slovenia (FURS) and get back the advance on the income tax (22,5%) in case that Republic of Slovenia has signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation with your country.

Make a quick calcultation of your incomes and you'll see if the country that you are coming from, has this agreement.

After you receive a payment for student work to your bank account, we can send you fullfiled KIDO 12 form by e-mail, just let us know that you need it. The form is also available on FURS website.

You can take the form or send it to FURS via mobile app once a month, every six months or within 5 years.

If FURS authorizes the refund, they will transfer your advance payment to your bank account within a month.

Non-residents who work via the Student Service are entitled to a Special Personal Relief in the amount of € 3.302,7 for 2019 (€ 3,500 for 2020).

SMS: is the fastest way to inform you about a received payment. Usually, you receive a SMS notification about the payment at around 15.00, and you receive the money to your account at around 16.00.

ONLINE: you can check your earnings in the e-office site at any moment.

This means that you will receive your earnings as soon as we receive a calculation of your hours from the company (this applies to companies with a good credit rating). You will receive a credit transfer in the amount of 100 % immediately and you will not have to wait for the company to pay.

The e-Student Service covers more than 90 % of the earnings of all students in the amount of 100 %.

There is no limit to how much you can earn via student service in a month or in a year. This means that you can earn as much as you want, but you will have to pay income tax at higher amounts.
